The origins of The Florida Group can be traced back to the early 1900’s. Founded by Adelman Goodman, the company originally made shoes in London, but in 1936 Adelman and his two sons took the decision to relocate to Norwich. A city, which at the time, was thriving with shoe factories specialising in ladies and children’s shoes.
Up to and during World War II, the company produced unbranded footwear and latterly footwear for the armed forces, but in 1946 the decision was taken to specialise in wider fitting ladies shoes. Van Dal was born.
Today the Van Dal brand remains in the city, and is in fact the last remaining traditional ladies shoe manufacturer in the UK. In the past few years the portfolio of brands has also grown to include both Pikolinos and Marc. With it the group has expanded its retail presence and now has partnerships with over 70 independent shoe retailers, as well as 10 concessions in department stores around the UK and Ireland.
